Drovatzis Law Firm Office

Stylish Comfort in Athens' City Center

The law firm is located in the center of Athens, in the Gyzi area, less than 50 meters distance from the bustling Alexandras Avenue. The building is one of the few in the area with exclusive commercial use, lacking any semi-outdoor spaces or balconies, surrounded by five-story apartment buildings. Its distinctive shape occupies the corner of a block, with its three sides facing north, east, and south respectively. The space, totaling 120 square meters, was initially divided into six rooms without any notable architectural features.

The owner’s vision was to create a bright and welcoming space that exudes the comfort of a home while also meeting the professional needs of the firm. The reception area, along with the auxiliary spaces, was positioned in the center of the floor, forming a functional core. This layout freed up the perimeter for employee offices, the meeting room, and the director’s office.

The in-between walls were replaced with semi-transparent sliding metal doors, providing visual expansion while maintaining the option to separate spaces when necessary. To address storage needs, a zone of bookshelves and cabinets was created along the entire perimeter. The furniture was designed with a unified, harmonious style, slightly differentiated in the director’s office.

Special attention was given to the design of ceiling moldings, door frames, and skirtings, aiming to create a homely feel. The wooden flooring with brass inlays, the marble in the reception area, and the different wood tones of the furniture enhanced the space’s sense of timelessness and quality. Planters with lavender were placed outside each window, adding color and vibrancy, while the aroma of the plants contributed to a sense of calm and connection with nature in the otherwise busy city center.

The different orientations of the building’s sides created strong and rapid changes in natural lighting. Wooden blinds, apart from their practical role in protecting from direct sun and glare, accentuated the movement of the sun, turning light into a constant play of shadows and transforming the space into an ever-changing visual experience.

Artificial lighting adjusts to meet the office’s needs, balancing the variations in natural light. In the reception and auxiliary spaces, the lighting is more intense and accent, highlighting objects and surfaces. In the offices and meeting room, downlighting serves functionality, while indirect ceiling uplighting enhances the atmosphere. All lighting is dimmable to adapt to time and light intensity, also aiding in energy conservation.
